Richard Dawkins to appear at Science Festival
Join one of the world's most eminent writers and thinkers, Prof Richard Dawkins for his last tour on the road, appearing at the Edinburgh Science Festival 2025.
The award-winning author of The Selfish Gene, The Blind Watchmaker and The God Delusion introduces his latest ground-breaking book, The Genetic Book of the Dead, which explores the power of Darwinian evolution and what it can reveal about the past.
This is an unforgettable opportunity to hear from one of the world's leading scientific figures and to unlock the door to evolutionary history, seen through wholly new eyes.
Richard Dawkins’ event joins an already stellar line-up of early on-sale events from the 2025 programme. Edinburgh Science Festival was the world’s first festival of science and technology and is still one of Europe’s largest. Returning under the theme Spaceship Earth, the 2025 festival will explore the challenges of living on a planet with finite resources through the lenses of science fiction and space exploration.
In addition to Richard Dawkin's event, two other shows are already on sale:
- Walk Like An Astronaut, with former-NASA astronaut Dr Kathy Sullivan [5 April]
- Above and Below: An Astronaut's View of our Planet, also with former-NASA astronaut Dr Kathy Sullivan [5 April]
- Less, with Patrick Grant host of BBC's Great British Sewing Bee [5 April
Programmed with support from the US Embassy, Dr Kathy Sullivan shares stories from her unparalleled career experiences and also chats to presenter Siân Bevan about her adventures in space. Also on 5 April, Patrick Grant joins writer and broadcaster Lucy Siegle for a discussion on the crisis of consumption and quality in the fashion industry in Less with Patrick Grant.
